Speaker 1:

It's time now to get the hell out of your life. A weekly broadcast with real people sharing real struggles and offering real hope. Today's show will encourage, inspire and empower you to face life's challenges with a bold confidence and renewed hope. Now let's join our host, ron Myers. The promoter.

Speaker 2:

Hello, my friends, welcome to another episode of Get the Hell Out of your Life. Today we're diving into a topic that's near and dear to my heart love, laughter and adventure. You know, in the book of Proverbs it says a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Now I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be filled with joy than feeling like a dried up sponge. So get ready to uplift your spirits as we explore how love can ignite our hearts. Laughter can lighten our burdens, and adventure can take us to unexpected places. Let's embrace the joy that life has to offer. So grab your favorite drink, kick back and let's embark on this journey together. As you hear from my guest, paulette Piper, the adventure, the laughter and the fun that's in her life all because of Jesus.

Speaker 3:

Life has handed me some funny situations. It sure has.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and we'll talk about that, but first tell the listeners a little bit about you.

Speaker 3:

So I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. We are Cornhusker fans. Sorry, SEC, but I was raised. My father was a teacher. My mother, a very godly woman, was born and raised in northern Minnesota and she, when she was growing up, she just begged the Lord, please don't leave me up here in this winter barren country. So she would not date anyone from that region. She wanted to live somewhere where there were more than just one season. So she met my father in Lincoln, Nebraska, and they married and lived in Omaha. So I literally lived in the same house I was born into until I got married.

Speaker 2:

What brought you down south your?

Speaker 3:

husband. Yes, so I married this incredible guy who moves up very quickly in companies. He's an aggressive dude, very talented and very intelligent. So he moves up very quickly in companies. He's an aggressive dude, very talented and very intelligent, so he moves up very quickly in companies. So once we got married, I think we moved 10 times in 11 years is what I counted. 10 times in 11 years we moved Some of them were just in the same city, from one house to another for lease reasons or whatever, but other times it was like our first move was to Arkansas and then from Arkansas we moved several times in that state. Then we moved to Florida and from Florida where we went to Virginia.

Speaker 2:

So you've been everywhere.

Speaker 3:

Oh, yes, and now you're in Thailand. And now I'm in Thailand. Now we are in Thailand.

Speaker 2:

What are you doing in Thailand?

Speaker 3:

Okay, so, so our. So my husband and I became empty nesters once our kids went to college and I was taking care of my father. He was in his 90s and we had started going on mission trips to Thailand. And boy, what a difference. But what beautiful people. We just fell in love with the Thai people and the Lord began to press on Doug's heart. I would like you in Thailand. I think that you need to come here and start what we call Project Paiow, which is planting a church in Thailand, in Northern Thailand. Now, this province, paiow province, is up north, and the people there are people of tribal and hill country and mountain people, mountain dwellers. 99% of them have never heard the name of Jesus, 99% of them. So look at your typical congregation in church how many people? If you have 200 people, 600 people. Okay, so two out of those people have heard the name of Jesus. What would that be like?

Speaker 2:

What has been the response, since you've been there?

Speaker 3:

Okay. So we are absolutely seeing the Lord move. There are a lot of churches in the Shanghai province, in Shanghai itself Christian churches. This is a primarily Buddhist country. However, their religion has been animistic and Buddhist and now we're seeing the influences of the Hindus, and the Hindus like to please their gods and they always just add gods. They never take any away, so they're not real interested in Jesus being the one and only. They would like to just add Jesus.

Speaker 3:

And it sounds an awful lot like the way Rome was in its time. They like to add gods, but we don't serve just one, but 99% of the Thai people have not heard the name of Jesus. So what I'm seeing now because we've gone to Thailand for so many years on mission trips we're seeing a big cultural change. We're seeing more and more people coming to Christ and we're seeing single members of families coming to Christ and it is creating a bit of a conflict between the Buddhists, the families of Buddhism, and when their children become Christians, there's this cultural thing. It's like okay, well, how are you going to take care of me after life if you're a Christian? You can't feed me, you can't feed my spirit if you become a Christian.

Speaker 2:

So it's creating this so they have a belief that after you die, your loved ones feed the spirit.

Speaker 3:

Yes, they have what's called a spirit house in front of most houses and they will daily clean yesterday's food off. Mostly daily They'll clean yesterday's food off. They'll put new rice out. If they're having a big occasion, they're going to put a large dish of food out and then a soda sometimes a soda with a straw coming out of it, so that the spirits can drink soda. Because when we build something, we disrupt the spirits by moving the ground, so we disrupt the spirits. We may have angered them, so now we must appease them. So they're a very fearful group. In the northern Thailand they're a very fearful group of people. If anything bad happens, people will generally leave that area or leave that neighborhood because we've upset the spirits and so they'll just leave.

Speaker 2:

Now, out of all the hundreds of thousands of people in the United States. Why do you think God sent you and Doug to Thailand?

Speaker 3:

I will say it's because that's what we prayed for when we asked for the Lord's movement in our life. When I would pray at night with my children, I would always end the prayers with Jesus. Help us do our part to take the gospel of Jesus to all the people in all the world, because it's the only thing that matters.

Speaker 2:

That's a beautiful prayer.

Speaker 3:

I pray that with my kids every night, every time they said, mom, will you come pray with me? That is the end of the prayer and now look at you.

Speaker 2:

you're in Thailand and now you're over here for just a couple of weeks. You raise money and then you'll go back. Now is this for everything?

Speaker 3:

Yes, doug, and I do intend to stay there until.

Speaker 2:

Wow.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes. So we moved over there in December of 2023. Our children had all left the house and gone to college, so we sold everything and my father had passed away the year and gone to college. So we sold everything and my father had passed away the year before.

Speaker 2:

So you're really committed to Jesus, absolutely 100%. You put your money where your mouth is.

Speaker 3:

With every fiber of who I am. This is important.

Speaker 2:

Amen. Well, I've had the pleasure of knowing you for quite a few years and been with you for three years on a mission trip up in Canada. For quite a few years and been with you for three years on a mission trip up in Canada and, as I said earlier, you are a funny person. You can reach people.

Speaker 3:

Do you get to use your humor over in Thailand? I do. It's one of the things that as I'm learning Thai, okay, I'm like. Okay, what's the word for a funny person? Oh, kondolok. Okay, so I pa. That means aunt condolok. So I'm the funny person, yeah, so I try to. Whenever I hang out with the Thai people, I try to have fun with the kids and we play a lot. When the Thai kids come to our house to hang out, we're playing games, we're doing karaoke and we're eating, because who doesn't love to eat?

Speaker 2:

I can see you doing that so much. Oh, yes, it's so much fun.

Speaker 3:

It's so much fun and the kids are enjoying themselves. They come over and if it's been like a month or so since they've come over, they will ask us in church. They'll say isn't it time for us to come over? Are you having a party this weekend? And oh, I guess we could Sure. Okay, yeah.

Speaker 2:

I've always been an admirer of your funniness because you can always tie the Lord into things that you talk about. You and I were talking before we went on air that it just seems there's not enough humor and laughing within the Christian community. We don't have enough fun. You are a fun person. Why do you think it is that we seem to be so many of us Christians so uptight and we don't laugh or look at funny things?

Speaker 3:

I'm not sure. I was raised on Red Skelton and Carol Burnett show and I love to imitate characters. Well, give us one.

Speaker 4:

Oh, Archie, you can't do that. Oh, you would hurt their feelings, Archie.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so we all love Edith, don't we? We do, we love Edith.

Speaker 2:

Who's another? Now you're on a roll. What's another one you like, oh goodness? So let me say, okay, Edith is coming in here to tell me about Jesus. So how would Edith?

Speaker 3:

tell me about Jesus. Oh, for heaven's sakes, ron, okay.

Speaker 4:

Oh, Ron Myers, you need the Lord. You need to read Psalms 23. The Lord will be with you in the valley and in the high places. He will bring you to a spirit and bring you to the lake for refreshing water. Oh, God is so good all the time I don't know that's good, that's good.

Speaker 2:

Oh God is so good all the time. I don't know that's good, that's good. You know there is a proverb that says laughter is like medicine, and it really does. They say it produces endorphins and it kind of gets us in a happy mood and I do think we need some laughter out there, yeah. So what's the future? You're down here to raise money, yes, and you're going to go back there forever.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes, now we will be coming back here and there, family events and so on. What about your kids? Are they saying, mom and dad, are you coming back, boy? That was tough. That was tough. That was tough on them.

Speaker 3:

And there were people who were like God would never tell you to leave your kids in a country and go to the other side of the world. There were people who were like God would never tell you to leave your kids in a country and go to the other side of the world. There were people who said that and we had to just go. You know what? You were not involved in the decision making. This was a conversation between us and God and I caution people about their judgment when it comes to people who are doing the will of the Lord. If they have had a conversation with the Lord, who am I, who am I to tell them otherwise? That is between them and God.

Speaker 3:

Now, god will always direct you in a way that aligns with the gospel and with the things that align in the direction of what the Lord wants from you. It's going to line up scripturally. He's never going to tell you to go do something outside your marriage. Have a relationship. That's going to line up scripturally. He's never going to tell you to go do something outside your marriage, have a relationship. That's not godly thinking, that's selfish behavior. But I always caution people and I caution myself when I may tend to lead to a judgmental attitude. I was not involved in the decision making between him and God, between her and God. That is, them and God. I am responsible for my own behavior. I am responsible to line up what my life does with what the gospel says and what the testament of our Lord says.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 3:

It's always going to be scripturally lined up.

Speaker 2:

So well put. Now I know, doug, your husband. Yes, I played golf with him in Canada. Is there golf courses in Thailand?

Speaker 3:

There are. There really are Some very good ones, some very good ones. Doug was able to go golfing one time in Shanghai with another kid. I think they went on a college campus. Wow, yes, so there's two campuses, two college campuses in Shanghai. There's Ratchapot University and then there's Mefa Luang campus, and both those are excellent campuses. I'm not sure which one he golfed at, though.

Speaker 2:

I do believe I've told you this before that you could be a standup comic, you could be on the stage and make money, but yet you are giving up yourself, your desires to go help other people. What motivates you?

Speaker 3:

So when I opened myself up to the Lord and his will, doug started getting the feeling that we needed to go to Thailand. And my initial response the first time he came back from Thailand he talked about, oh, how wonderful it was and how great the people were, and I saw the pictures on Facebook about what they were doing with the Thai kids and I could see they were having fun and so on. But when I picked him up at the church off that flight, he said you have got to go to Thailand, you have got to go. And I said no way. No way, buddy. I have seen all the Rambo movies, I have seen all those Southeast Asia movies and I am not going to Southeast Asia. There is no way.

Speaker 3:

But over the course of a year I could see that Doug really meant this and I was like all right, lord, here's the thing If you want me to go, you're going to have to change my heart. Now, I'm not Pharaoh, I am not a Pharaoh, but you can change my heart. I'm giving you permission to change my heart. Now. I'm not Pharaoh, I am not a Pharaoh, but you can change my heart. I'm giving you permission to change my heart, and over the course of a year. God was like you can do this.

Speaker 5:

Wow.

Speaker 3:

You can totally do this, and pretty soon. I was like, oh well, that's not. You know, I really was not worried anymore about this 14 hour flight, or 12 hour flight, or eight hour flight, and there were several of them.

Speaker 2:

So what would you tell someone listening right now that is really kind of torn because they feel that they need to go somewhere and do something for the Lord and they're just not getting a lot of support from other people.

Speaker 3:

I would say don't listen to them. I would say don't listen to them, go, the Lord will carry you. If the Lord is with you, he's going to be, he's going to carry you through it. And it's not going to be awful, it's not. It's just not. Everybody that has had the trepidatious attitude that I had, that has gone was like that was nothing, that was nothing, that was great. That was such a small part of it. It's not even worry.

Speaker 2:

If people are listening and say I want to know more about you and your husband, your ministry maybe even make a donation. How could they do that?

Speaker 3:

Okay, so projectpyowcom, we work with a NTIM, which is Northern Thailand Impact Ministry Team, which is Northern Thailand Impact Ministry Team, and NTIM is out of Birmingham, alabama, but Project Payao is spelled P-H-A-Y-A-O, project Payao, or you can go to wwwpipersintailandcom.

Speaker 2:

And they can support you.

Speaker 3:

Yes, absolutely.

Speaker 2:

Send you a donation.

Speaker 3:

Yes, that'd be great, and then when we do send out letters, you'll be getting updates. This last year and a half, we have been in Thai school five days a week, from 10 in the morning until 1130 in the morning, and that's Thai time. So here that's 10 pm. So while we're here, we're actually taking Thai classes at night, which is proving to be a challenge.

Speaker 2:

The title of this show is called Get the Hell Out of your Life. So I want to ask Edith Edith, how do you get the hell out of your life?

Speaker 4:

Oh, you got to get off of yourself and stop listening to the flesh. It's deceitfully, wicked, deceitfully. So is the flesh flesh. It's deceitfully, wicked, deceitfully. So is the flesh.

Speaker 2:

There you go, there you go. Humor, humor with Jesus, humor with Paulette Piper, and thank you. Thank you for coming by and visiting with us. It's always good to see you and Doug, and there's somebody listening that needs some encouragement. They're just having a bad day. Things are not going well in their life. Will you, Paulette, encourage them?

Speaker 3:

Yes, I would be delighted to. The Lord is with you and the Lord loves you. The Lord cares for you. The Lord has a plan and a purpose for you, and I know that some of you are tempted, so let's just pray First, corinthians 10, 13,. No temptation has overtaken you, but such as is common to man. But God is faithful in that he will provide a way of escape so that you may be able to endure it. There is a way out of sin. There is a way out of sin. I promise you. Look for the door, look for the Lord, call out to God and he will provide a way of escape for you. I want you to be blessed. We want you to understand that our Father, our God, loves you and he will not let you down. His will is right, his will is perfect, his will is the way. Project Payal. Thank you, ron.

Speaker 2:

When I return my epic road trip to share Jesus.

Speaker 1:

You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life with your host, ron Myers. Real stories, real struggles and real hope.

Speaker 7:

Life is a gift, a beautiful blend of love, laughter and adventure. My name is Mark and this is the Journey. Quite often, the troubles in life can rob us of our joy and happiness if we allow them to. But the Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians, chapter 4, that our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all Verse 17. This perspective does not deny the reality of hardship, but it anchors us in a deeper truth what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Speaker 7:

When we pursue love, share laughter and embrace adventure, we are not ignoring life's trials. We are simply choosing to live in the freedom that comes from trusting in God. Our love for God and, more importantly, His unwavering love for us, gives us the courage to walk through this life without being crushed by its weight. Trusting in God means we don't have to carry every burden. We can let joy find us, even in the hard places. We can laugh, not because life is easy, but because our hope in Jesus is secure. So seek love, because God is love. Seek laughter, because joy is a fruit of the Spirit, and seek adventure, because faith calls us to walk where we cannot see. Above all fix your eyes not on the fleeting troubles of this world, but on the eternal promises of God through Jesus Christ through Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2:

Welcome back listeners. Get the hell out of your life. Get the hell out of your life. Welcome back listeners. Well, now it's my turn to tell you about my epic road trip, a journey that was supposed to be all about sharing Jesus but quickly turned into a series of hilarious misadventures. So here I was, full of enthusiasm, ready to hit the road and spread some good news. I packed my car with everything I thought I'd need A Bible, some snacks and a dream. I mean, who wouldn't want to share the message of Jesus while munching on trail mix? Right, I thought I'd make friends with strangers across America. Turns out I mostly made friends with gas station snacks.

Speaker 2:

My first stop Tennessee. I rolled into a small town and thought this is it. I'll find someone to share my message with. But as I began talking to folks, I realized I was in the land of barbecue and sweet tea. My first conversation went something like this hey there, have you heard about Jesus? And they responded sure have, but have you tried our pulled pork? Suddenly, I was knee deep in barbecue sauce and I think I left with a new appreciation for ribs rather than revelations.

Speaker 2:

Next, I stopped in a little town in Arkansas. I rolled in excited to spread the good news and immediately found myself at a diner called Heavenly Bites. I thought this must be a sign. I ordered a burger and fries and let me tell you they were divine, better than anything I could have imagined. I left with a full belly but a little confused. Was I there to share Jesus or just indulge in heavenly cuisine?

Speaker 2:

I made my way to my destination in Iowa. I walked into a church service and it was like stepping onto the set of a reality show. The choir was singing, people were clapping and I thought this is the moment I'm going to share Jesus. But then someone handed me a tambourine and before I knew it I was shaking it like I was auditioning for a music video. Let's just say my rhythm was more awkward penguin than gospel groove. But here's the twist During all this chaos, I realized I was missing the point. It wasn't about the perfect pitch or the right audience, it was all about the journey.

Speaker 2:

One night, after a long day, I found myself sitting in my car, exhausted. I closed my eyes and just talked to Jesus like he was my best friend. And let me tell you, in that moment I felt a connection deeper than anything I had experienced on my trip. It was like Jesus was saying, ron, you know, I love you, even if you can't carry a tune or shake a tambourine to save your life. And I thought, wow, if he can love me through all my misadventures, then I'm doing something right. So while I might not have converted the entire country or started a nationwide revival, I did learn something invaluable Sharing Jesus isn't always about the grand gestures or the perfect sermons.

Speaker 2:

Sometimes it's just about being real, having a laugh and letting people see the joy of knowing him, even if that joy comes with a side of barbecue sauce and a few awkward dance moves. So here's to the journey, to the missteps, to the laughter and the unexpected moments that lead us to a more personal relationship with Jesus. And if you ever need someone to share a funny story or a plate of ribs, I'm your person. How do you get the hell out of your life?

Speaker 4:

Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord. He hears you, right, where you are. How do you get the hell out of your life? Well, your knees and cry out to the Lord.

Speaker 2:

He hears you, right where you are, how to get the hell out of your life? Well, yeah, replace it with Jesus. We got to be born again, born of the Spirit, and that's by trusting Jesus Christ, turning from our sins and trusting Jesus.

Speaker 7:

You find out about this man by the name of Jesus, who went to the cross and gave his life so that we will have a life more abundantly. And if you can receive that love, he will love that hell out of you.

Speaker 5:

You trust in him and you let him love the hell right out of you.

Speaker 2:

How do you get the hell out of your life? Oh gosh, jesus, jesus, jesus.

Speaker 3:

Jesus.

Speaker 7:

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through him.

Speaker 2:

I hope today's show has helped you get the hell out of your life and as I wrap up today's episode, I want to remind you to lighten up and let that smile shine. Life can get heavy, but when you know Jesus, it's like having the ultimate joy booster right by your side. So take a moment, breathe and remember. With Jesus, every day is an opportunity for laughter, love and adventure. After all, what could be more enjoyable than a life filled with joy, just you and Jesus? Please help me promote this show. It's called Get the Hell Out of your Life, available on all podcast platforms Until next week.
