Ron Meyers Season 6 Episode 15

Send us a text

Andre Blythe shares how discovering God's plan requires both practical preparation and persistent pursuit, drawing from his book "Some Assembly Required" and his personal journey from business executive to ministry leader.

• Finding purpose is the fundamental human quest behind our pursuits of degrees, promotions, and wealth
• Living authentically as one integrated person rather than wearing different masks at work, church, and home
• When facing adversity, focus on serving others rather than dwelling in self-pity
• Brokenness becomes the birthplace of breakthrough when we maintain relationship with God through difficulties
• Quieting the noise of the world is essential to hearing God's divine guidance
• Morning "coffee with Jesus" helps establish the daily connection needed for spiritual direction
• God uses our past experiences, even painful ones, as training for our future purpose
• Current limitations aren't permanent - live in anticipation of God's deliverance

You can find Andre Blythe's book "Some Assembly Required: Discovering God's Plan for your Life" on Amazon, Walmart, Books-A-Million, and as an e-book.

Speaker 1:

It's time now to get the hell out of your life. A weekly broadcast with real people sharing real struggles and offering real hope. Today's show will encourage, inspire and empower you to face life's challenges with a bold confidence and renewed hope. Now let's join our host, ron Myers. The promoter.

Speaker 2:

Hello, my friends, it is so good to be with you today. Happy Easter, boy. I love this time of year. Everything is new around us, flowers are blooming, you can feel the sense of new beginnings. So today I thought for the Easter program I want to bring in an author, somebody that has written about discovering God's plan for your life. And I found an extraordinary speaker and author Andre Blythe. He wrote a book called Some Assembly Required Discovering God's Plan for your Life. Andre, welcome to the show and tell us what's going on with you, what's your story.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, you first of all, ron, for having me. You know, when I look at my life, I see the handprint of God all over it, even in the days where I was not one of his children, meaning I hadn't received Jesus as my Savior and Lord. And even in the midst of all of that, god had some specific plans for me and I started out my business career in retail and then I transitioned over into payments at the very lowest levels of leadership that God, through a series of, you know, providential things, has moved me from the entry level all the way up to the C-suite and but also in ministry. You know I've been a minister for 30 plus years preach other gospel, former senior pastor. But it's nothing like the personal life alliance with Jesus walking alongside him and seeing how the plans that he has for you unfold, one step at a time.

Speaker 2:

That is so true. I was in the business world for many years doing my own thing and I had fun. I thought I had fun until I got tired of it, and I tell people that it's so amazing that when you start walking with Jesus and he inspires you with ideas, that I'm doing things today I never knew I could do and I can only attribute that because I am discovering each day more and more of God's plan for our life. Does that make sense? It?

Speaker 3:

does. And the one thing that I tell the readers, and I've shared with people throughout my life, is that the closer you walk in lockstep with Christ, with the Holy Spirit, the closer you're going to get to God unveiling his plans, as I also share in my book. I broke it down in two parts based on Jeremiah 29. And the first part says we must prepare practically. While we're in bondage, while we're waiting for our breakthrough, while we're waiting to be delivered, we still need to prepare practically, and that may not resonate with some people, but you have to realize the background of that passage. They were in captivity and yet God comes with a message that says live like you are free.

Speaker 3:

And the second part of the book is pursue persistently. Part of the book is pursue persistently. Too often we go to God with event-driven prayers, meaning we have a situation, so let's pray. We have a problem, so let's pray. What about going to God from a relational perspective, in other words having a conversation with him every single day, so that when those fires of life come, it won't be like a distant relationship that you're trying to stoke up again? So that's the way I look at the book, but as well as my life in general, and I put plenty of practical examples in the book to describe that to readers.

Speaker 2:

Now what do you mean? Live like you're free.

Speaker 3:

When we're in captivity, and I'll use an example of myself. In fact, I was diagnosed with an incurable autoimmune disease coming up on eight years ago and, of course, my first prayer was God, heal me, deliver me, cure this incurable disease. But what I heard in my spirit was my grace is sufficient. So, in the middle of having this disease that I still carry today, even though it was dormant, thank God, the challenge for me was you are here for a reason and a season, so don't live just because your environment looks like captivity. You belong to the Most High God, so live like you are free in Him. Live in anticipation of his deliverance. Don't saturate in the sorrow of your bondage. I hope that makes sense.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that makes sense. So you talk to a lot of people out there, maybe in church and out of church. What do you feel is the one thing people are looking for right now in life?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think one of the things that intrinsically people are looking for is purpose, even though they may not define it per se as purpose. It per se as purpose. But when you see people going a certain direction or trying to aspire to get to this particular point in life, at the genesis of it or the foundation of it, is probably searching for purpose. We can get additional degrees, we can get promotions, we can acquire wealth, we can do all of those things, but at the end of the day, if you're not pursuing the purpose God has for your life, all of those things will leave you empty, and I can testify to that particular fact. So I think purpose, finding purpose, and then moving forward in it, and then moving forward in it.

Speaker 3:

And one thing I don't want your listeners to hear is that I'm saying there's anything wrong with prospering. There's nothing wrong with prospering. However, prospering is secondary to you walking with the Lord, and then when he blesses you, he blesses you to be used to help others. So it's a matter of finding a purpose and that's why, again, the book is broken down into two parts prepare practically, pursue persistently. If we're doing those two things, god will unfold his plans and his next steps to us.

Speaker 2:

Exactly. In fact, listeners, the book we're talking about is Some Assembly Required Discovering God's Plan for your Life. I love that title. How has the response been since your book has been?

Speaker 3:

out. That's a great, great question and I love the title too and I give you a little insight. At first I was going to name the book Discovering God's Plans for your Life and then the subtopic was going to be Some Assembly Required. And my publisher and I were talking and we thought that the Some Assembly Required would be the headline and the subtitle would be Discovering God's Plan for your Life. So I've had the opportunity to between the online outlets, I, you know the online outlets I'm on all the major online outlets and speaking engagements and signing events that I've had so far almost 500 copies since October 27th of last year.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so it is. It is being received. I've got some really good reviews online as well from the book so far, but I believe we're just scratching the surface. My goal is to get national attention around this message.

Speaker 2:

But you know, the one thing, andre, that you've discovered, I discovered is that we are searching for our place in life. We want to be accepted. We want to be accepted, we want to be noticed and we do things to fill the little things in our life, like I did with promotions and events, but they never did. They never really. I always felt something missing and I tell people sometimes you need that missing part in your life, you need to be missing things. You know, the title of the show is called Get the Hell Out of your Life, and I'd say often to people that some people aren't ready to find their purpose because they haven't had enough hell in their life yet to drive them to search for their purpose. And sometimes the adversity in our lives and the troubles and the trials and the tribulation is really that is the opportunity. If we do a search, we're going to find something that God, you know, maybe he's trying to get our attention. What do you think?

Speaker 3:

I wholeheartedly agree. I often tell people that brokenness is the birthplace of breakthrough and because of that we will have adversity in our lives. You can look at the story of Job, you can look at the story of Moses, you can look at the story of Joseph in Genesis and see how adversity came in their lives. But because they were walking with God, they were able to see it all the way through. It wasn't comfortable, it wasn't their preference, just like when we go through adversity. I mean, I have no qualms with the fact that, yes, I want the thorn in my flesh, this incurable thing, healed and delivered from me, but at the same time, as long as God's sufficient grace is walking with me, then I can make it. As long as God's sufficient grace is walking with me, then I can make it. But adversity sometimes will bring you to your knees. And when you do, when you do and that's why I said earlier that we cannot be our prayer lives can't be driven event-wise. It needs to be driven by our relationship with the Lord.

Speaker 2:

So when we are in those adverse times, we're able to look up to the hills, knowing where I help. Coach from Amen. You mentioned Moses a minute ago and it reminded me. Years ago I was doing an outdoor rally or a little speaking thing and I told the group or the audience that you know, I don't know why it took me so long in life to see the light, and it was like I was 40 years old and I don't know why it took so long.

Speaker 2:

Well, a gentleman came up when I finished and he said Mr Ron, mr Ron, I need to tell you, remember, god trained Moses in the palaces of Pharaoh before he sent him out into the world, and I thought you know what that makes sense. Sometimes we are being trained in what, like you were as a boss and a CEO and a senior pastor. He trained you in the ways of the world, you in the ways of the world. But then, at the right time, the perfect time, god called you as an author and a speaker now to take some of that knowledge and speak life into individuals. And you're doing a great job, andre. Thank you so much for what you're doing out there to help people. Thank you.

Speaker 3:

You know, one of the things that I hear in the business world, where we have people are trying to show up to get promoted, to get more opportunity, to get raises, for a number of reasons. But what I try to tell them is we must stay away. Part of discovering God's plan for our lives is staying away from living compartmentally. Lives is staying away from living compartmentally. We have a mindset that says, okay, I'm at work, let me put my work hat on. I'm at church, let me put my church hat on. I'm at home, let me put my home hat on.

Speaker 3:

And what I try to encourage people that I mentor is you are one person. Stop trying to be multiple people. Whoever the Lord has created you to be, show up in that way at work. Now, of course, there are nuances when you get into the business world and to those other areas, but you know we can make it through the adversity. We can find our purpose by showing up as a child of God. Amen, showing up as a child of God every single day and allowing ourselves to be used. It's a huge mistake to show up with mask on because, depending upon the environment, you might forget which mask you have on.

Speaker 2:

So, in other words, we need to be doing life with Jesus 24-7. It's not just one day a week or one time in the morning that when we are aware of doing life with Jesus, he is our oxygen. Things just naturally seem to flow out of us. There was a gentleman the other day said you know, I just am so stuck with a problem I have with my business. I said well, listen, you're only one divine thought away from a breakthrough. That breakthrough is going to come from God. So why don't you just kind of have a positive expectancy? And, lord, thank you for the answer you're going to give me. And when you least know it, you may be exercising at the gym or walking. You're going to get this idea and you're going to know right then, that's from God.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. God still speaks, he speaks. We have to quiet the noise of the world around us so that we can hear and speak through his word.

Speaker 2:

You know I try to encourage the listeners. Andre is coffee with Jesus and I have my coffee with Jesus every morning. That still quiet voice and I said you know, the good thing about Jesus being united with Christ is that we can share our heart or joys or worries or whatever we're scared of, and we just bear our soul with my coffee with Jesus and it's amazing how he would just speak to the hurts in our life and minister to us. And I think Jesus loves to minister to us but we just sometimes don't slow down to let him do what he does best and that is just really love the hell out of our life.

Speaker 3:

Yes, really love the hell out of our life, yes, and I think that one of the things that I love and I'm reminded of is speaking.

Speaker 3:

God speaks through the silence. You know, I was listening to this song by Anthony Evans Jr and it's called Speaking Through the Silence, and it's hard for us to hear God in the midst of the silence, because our voice, or that voice of doubt, that voice of fear, is speaking a lot louder. So one of the things I address in the book is be still and allow God to use you where you are. And I use an example in the book about, you know, having to leave a high paying role, executive level role and then being hired in a role that's probably three to four levels below what I was capable, and, of course, that meant the income was way lower as well. But rather than sitting there in my pity party, god shook me and said listen, there are people around you who need your expertise. Make what you can do available to us, shine your light where you are, and then I'll take care of the rest. Stop trying to get to a certain level and just operating your gifts where I have you.

Speaker 2:

That is awesome advice. It reminds me I was on the radio during Hurricane Katrina. I interviewed many volunteers that came from all over the country. They were blown away how they were blessed beyond measure because they came down here to be a blessing to people. But the blessing really was reversed back to them because they said, Ron, this feels great to just do what God wants us to do, and many of them were doing semi-annual or annual trips down here. There is something about when we give of ourselves. It's like that boomerang effect. It just comes right back to us, doesn't it?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, as you were speaking, what I was thinking about is Philippians 2, 1 through 5, where and I'll paraphrase it basically says esteem others greater than yourself. So one of the greatest things to do when you're in a waiting season is to minister to the needs of somebody else.

Speaker 3:

Take your mind off of you and put your mind on them. And then Paul wraps up with verse five have this mind in you, which is also in Christ Jesus. So when we become God-centered, we focus on being other-centered, and then, before you know it, god has moved in and helped, even minister to the needs that we originally had.

Speaker 2:

Amen, brother. Tell the listeners one more time the title of your book and where they can get a copy.

Speaker 3:

Title of the book again is Some Assembly Required. Discovering God's Plans for your Life. You can find it online at Amazon, walmart Books for a Million, and you can also download it in iBookstore and you can get an e-book copy also on Amazon.

Speaker 2:

Andre. It's a wonderful book. Listeners, I highly encourage you to get it. And now, andre, will you encourage the listeners as well as say a prayer for those that are listening?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. I think the encouragement would be remember, no matter where you are, God has you there for a reason and for a season. Don't get locked up in a complacent attitude. Remain content, knowing that God has you where you are right now, for a reason and a season. Let me pray with you, Father.

Speaker 3:

I thank you right now for these listeners. I pray, God, that those that are in search of your purpose will find it. God, they will not find their will, but they will find your will, God. I pray that you will align their faith with the words of the Bible, God, and allow them, no matter where they are, to serve others, to esteem others, to be a great example of Christ, no matter where they are in their lives. For those, God, that are struggling with the lack of hope, let them know that you love them and that your favor will rest upon them and God. Lastly, for those that feel like nobody understands where they are, I praise you and thank you that you're omniscient, meaning you're all-knowing. You know exactly where they are, you know exactly what they're thinking and you know exactly what they need. So move by the power of your spirit to meet those needs. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Speaker 2:

When I return life lessons from Masters Champion Rory McIlroy.

Speaker 1:

You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life with your host, ron Myers. Real stories, real struggles and real hope.

Speaker 4:

Are you living like God is a million miles away? Unfortunately, many people do, but the fact is God is closer now than ever. In Old Testament times, the people had to worship God from a great distance. In fact, there was a veil in the Old Testament temples that separated God from his people. The only persons allowed beyond the veil, into the holiest of holies were the priests. Access to God was limited and intimacy with him was veiled, both literally and spiritually. But everything changed with Jesus.

Speaker 4:

In 2 Corinthians, chapter 3, Paul explains that through Christ, the veil has been removed. Whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away Because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. We now have full, direct access to God through Jesus. The distance that once marked the relationship between God and humanity has been closed. Through faith in Christ, we are not only granted access, we are made new. 2 Corinthians, chapter 5 tells us. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation and you now have direct access to the creator of the universe through Jesus. His blood has made you clean and new in the eyes of God. Lord, help us to live each day as a new creation and help us to walk more closely with you.

Speaker 5:

Here's an encouraging word today from Psalms, chapter 37, verses 4 through 5. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him and he shall bring it to pass.

Speaker 2:

Welcome back listeners. Did you watch the Masters? It was awesome, and I was looking at that tournament and I felt a life lesson to share with you. Life is a journey filled with ups and downs, but the key to success, whether in personal or professional endeavors, is to never lose sight of your goals and never give up. Take Rory McIlroy's recent victory at the Masters. It wasn't just a moment of glory. Victory at the Masters, it wasn't just a moment of glory. It showcased determination, resilience and the relentless pursuit of dreams. Rory faced numerous obstacles that tested his spirit. Despite doubts and heavy expectations, he remained focused and believed in his vision of success.

Speaker 2:

Rory's journey reminds us that the path to achievement is rarely straightforward. Setbacks can be frustrating, but they can also teach us valuable lessons. Each challenge is an opportunity to emerge stronger and more committed to our dreams. When Rory stepped onto the green at Augusta, he played for every moment he had ever dreamed of. His perseverance turned dreams into reality and inspired us to push forward towards our goals, no matter how distant they seem. So here is the life lesson I want to share with you Embrace challenges has opportunities for growth, and remember the only true failure is the failure to try. Keep your eyes on the prize and don't waver from your path. Your goals, your dreams, they are worth the fight, as Rory has shown. With determination and resilience, victory is not just possible, it is inevitable. So go forth, my friend, chase your dreams and never, ever give up. How do you get the hell out of your life?

Speaker 6:

Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord he hears you, right where you are how to get the hell out of your life. Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord he hears you, right where you are.

Speaker 5:

How to get the hell out of your life? Well, yeah, replace it with Jesus. We got to be born again, born of the Spirit, and that's by trusting Jesus Christ, turning from our sins and trusting Jesus.

Speaker 4:

You find out about this man by the name of Jesus, who went to the cross and gave his life so that we will have a life more abundantly. And if you can receive that love, he will love that hell out of you.

Speaker 3:

You trust in him and you let him love the hell right out of you.

Speaker 2:

How do you get the hell out of your life? Oh gosh, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Jesus.

Speaker 6:

Jesus. Turn to Jesus.

Speaker 2:

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
