Get The Hell Out of Your Life

When Your Trailer Blows Up, God Shows Up

Ron Meyers Season 6 Episode 27

Send us a text

What happens when a 20-year meth addiction culminates in a trailer explosion? For Rodney Williams, it became the catalyst for an extraordinary life transformation that continues to impact thousands.

"On meth, you're fasting to the devil," Rodney explains in this raw, powerful episode. His unflinching account takes us from childhood sexual trauma through two decades of methamphetamine addiction that stripped away everything – his marriage, home, career, and hope. But the real story begins in an ambulance after his meth lab erupted in flames, leaving him with severe burns and a moment of desperate clarity.

Rodney's unconditional surrender in that ambulance marks a turning point that defies the typical addiction narrative. "I wanted to go to heaven, I just wanted to live like hell," he admits, differentiating between his previous surface-level religious gestures and the profound spiritual transformation that finally occurred. His description of recovery as "a bucket full of dirt" gradually cleansed by "the washing of the water of the word" offers a visceral metaphor for the healing process.

Now 23 years sober, Rodney has distributed over 100,000 copies of his books "Club Meth to Christ" and "Once an Addict, Now Free" to addicts and inmates across the country. His morning routine of "having coffee with Jesus" provides a simple yet profound template for spiritual growth that anyone can apply. When host Ron Myers asks about maintaining sobriety in this "crazy upside-down world," Rodney's answer cuts through religious jargon: "Everything I was looking for, I found in Him. I'm satisfied, I'm complete."

Whether you're battling addiction yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply seeking inspiration from an authentic story of transformation, Rodney's journey demonstrates that rock bottom can become the foundation for an entirely new life. As he puts it, "After 23 years of serving Jesus, I'm a satisfied customer."

Today's guest is Rodney Williams, who told me he said Ron, on meth, you're fasting to the. He had an addiction to meth for over 20 years and then one day he was cooking meth in his trailer and it blew . . Well, he made a decision in the ambulance on the way to the . . He's got a great story and you'll love it, . . Welcome to the . . And Rodney, what in the world is your story?

Rodney Williams:

Well, as a young child. Of course my mom and them took me to church. But at a young age, being sexually molested by a sick man, and I turned to this Jesus they had told me about and God spoke to me. I had childlike faith. God spoke to me. He told me that he would protect me and one day I would preach his word. And of course I had hurts, pains and issues, and drugs and alcohol become my solution and it numbed the pain, made me forget about it. And the Bible says pleasure sends for a season. It was fun, we had a good time, you know. But you know I always tell people you know you can choose to jump out of a 10-story window, but you can't choose your consequences when you hit the ground.

Rodney Williams:

Through many car wrecks, in and out of jail, broken marriage, just a life of destruction, you know, is what addiction led me into. And this is over 20 years of addiction. My whole life was centered around the drugs and alcohol, the party life. That was my whole life, it was my God, that's what I was pursuing, that's what I was seeking. And then rehabs. I went to different rehabs, went to the Home of Grace one time Left out of there Went back into meth.

Rodney Williams:

Meth was a big thing, methamphetamines Going 10 or more days without eating or sleeping. I always tell people on uh, on meth, you are fasting to the devil. You know saying when you're not eating, you're not sleeping. Open up the gates, your mind and becoming one with the demonic realm. But uh, june 19, 2002 is what changed everything. I'd lost everything, lost my home, lost. My job was just going from place to place cooking the methamphetamines. Uh, and this night, uh, I'm in a small trailer, the fumes had built up and in my mind there's police in the trees, police under the trailer, just geeking out, you know, and just want to get high, but I'm not going to get any higher than what I already am. And as I'm cooking the meth and the fumes had built up and no ventilation, a spark went off the heat lamp and the whole trailer ignites. And then I'm trying to get out of the trailer. You know what I'm saying, because I had the doors bolted down because of fear and paranoia. I run outside when the doors come open with second, third-degree burns. At 2 o'clock in the morning, I'm waking these people up and they're shocked. I'm standing there all burnt up and throw a blanket around me and began rushing me to the hospital.

Rodney Williams:

All the times I've been in and out of jail, I'd always cry out to God. I always believed in God. I believe in one God that'll do us well. The devils also believe in trouble. I always tell people I wanted to go to heaven. I just wanted to live like hell. I made professions of faith, I got baptized as a kid, but I had no intention of turning from my sin and trusting Christ, you know. And I never got born again. I never became a child of God because I had no true repentance. But this night things was different. I hated the life that I was living, the things that I thought would satisfy me. That did not and I cried out to God. I said God, you can take my eye, ear, whatever you want, whatever's left, I'm going to serve you. And I made an unconditional surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ that night and that's where God's regeneration took place. I became a child of God that night and that's where God began the journey of my life.

Rodney Williams:

Second, third degree burns.

Rodney Williams:

I got the skin grafts, wound care at South Alabama Burn Center and I said God, I'm too weak to do this, but I'll do anything you tell me to do.

Rodney Williams:

And God spoke to me just as plain as day, just like when I was a little kid. He spoke to me for the first time and told me to go back to the home of grace. And I went back to the home of grace and that's where God began to triumph for me, change me. I always tell people it's like I was 37 years old with a bucket full of dirt, the washing of the water of the word, taking a water hose and going and allowing that water to go in the dirt, and the dirt begins to come out. Come out, come out. Eventually got clear, clean water. That's what God does with you. Through the washing of the water of his word, the transformation was taking place. And then one night, I got filled with the Holy Spirit and I realized my goodness, this is what I've been looking for all my life, you know so you literally blew up to meet Jesus, amen, and you did it in an ambulance.

Ron Meyers:

Now, how did your family and your friends react to this?

Rodney Williams:

Well, even though I was born again a child of God, I got to the hospital. I always tell people it took three days to get Israel out of Egypt, 40 years in the wilderness to get Egypt out of them. I'm still full of the world. So I'm still cussing. I'm about to wear the morphine button. Now no change is taking place. But I had really given my life to the Lord and I'm saying I give my blankety-blank life to Jesus and they're yeah, right, we've heard that before. So they didn't have a whole lot of confidence in what I was saying, you know.

Ron Meyers:

But God had a plan for you the whole time, and I think that's what is so important. I try to emphasize every week, through this show and through my guests, that we can have all the hell in our life that we can possibly imagine, and more on top of it, but God will search and search and knock at our door and he will find us and try to say, hey, I need you. And he never gives up on us, does he? Yes?

Rodney Williams:

that's right. And, like I said he told me, as a young child I preach his word and I've been preaching his word for some 22 years now. So God is faithful, you know, and I didn't. I had no hope. I mean it was. I remember the promise God had made me, but I was so in such darkness there was no way that God could ever bring me out of it.

Ron Meyers:

And he did when I fully surrendered to my will and my plans, to his plan, God was able to work with me then. Well, Rodney, I know you personally and I see what you've done, and we'll talk about your book that you've sent out 100,000 copies in just a little bit. But how do you maintain your sobriety and continue to grow your faith in this crazy upside down world?

Rodney Williams:

Well, that's through the renewing of the mind, you know, through the Word of God and in the relationship that I have with Christ man, I'm satisfied, I'm complete. The Bible says, for it pleased the Father, that in him should all fullness dwell. Jesus is the fullness, the completeness. Everything we're looking for in the world is found in Christ Jesus, in this relationship, and that's what I found. Everything I was looking for I found in him. I'm satisfied, I'm satisfied, I'm complete. And now I got to stay in the word. I got to stay in this relationship, just like a husband and wife. You've got to take her on dates. You got to spend quality time with your wife, and same thing with Jesus. You got to spend that quality time with him, to get to know him. And it takes time, it's a process.

Ron Meyers:

I love to have my coffee with Jesus every morning and I tell people, you know the one thing a lot of us approaching Jesus, they think, well, I have to be in a church or I have to be religious. And I tell people no, just open up your heart. If you want to yell, you want to complain, whatever it is, have a conversation with Jesus and then shut up for a few minutes and that still quiet voice will begin speaking and it can change your life, just like it did for me. He saved me, he saved you. Amen, and life is good with Jesus isn't it?

Rodney Williams:

Amen, it is. I can't see how I lived without him all those years, you know.

Ron Meyers:

But if you didn't have all the hell in your life, you couldn't be such a great promoter of Jesus today because you've been there, done that, have the t-shirt and now you're telling people how you got free. So, speaking on that, what advice would you give someone listening right now that's struggling with addiction and they just don't know what to do and they can't go to home of grace because they have no money?

Rodney Williams:

Yeah, Well, like I said, I searched everything in the world had to offer, tried all the things I thought would satisfy me and come up empty. And then I know where you're at right now. You've lost hope. You've tried many things to get to quit, to change on your own and you just can't do it. But you've got to come to a point where you just hate, hate the life, hate the sin, and you die from it. That's when you turn and you cry out to God and just ask him to forgive you and come and be Lord of your life, master your life and come and change you, and he will. And he begins a process and it is a process of him transforming your change.

Rodney Williams:

I always tell people I'm not where I want to be, but I ain't where I used to be 23 years ago. I'm a totally different, a new creation in Christ, but used to be 23 years ago. I'm a totally different, a new creation in Christ, but I'm totally changed from where I was and I'm a work in progress. You know I'm not perfect, but I'm in the process.

Ron Meyers:

Well, you said something a minute ago that you just have to begin to hate your life. I say you will. You don't have to hate your life, because you will begin to hate your life and that is the decision part of your life. Do you turn to the world, do you turn to Mohammed, do you turn to the Koran or do you turn to Jesus, the name above all names? And obviously I'm going to promote Jesus 24, seven, every day of the week, because Jesus came to this world for you and I, for all of our listeners, so we could become the person he created us to be. And I talk about destiny a lot on this show because I believe that we will never be fulfilled, we'll never have peace, we'll never enjoy with the fruits of what God has given us if we don't discover our purpose. So, rodney Williams, what's your destiny in this world? Purpose?

Rodney Williams:

So, rodney Williams, what's your destiny in this world? What's your purpose, rodney Williams? My purpose is to go out and share the freedom that I found in Christ Jesus. There's a lost world out here, living in darkness, just like I was, in addiction, just in sin, and they're looking for something. They just don't know what they're looking for.

Rodney Williams:

And what we're looking for is Jesus. That was God's plan from the very beginning of the foundation of the world that Jesus, the light of the world, that he would send in to save us from our sin and from the curse that we're all under, and would set us free and give us the liberty, the freedom that we're all looking for, the relationship that we're looking for. We're all designed to be in relationship with God, you know, and he wants a relationship with every one of us, but he gave us free will that you can choose. Choose to continue living the way you're living and be miserable, or choose to follow and serve him, and what God has for you is everything you're looking for. I tell people, after 23 years of serving Jesus, I'm a satisfied customer.

Ron Meyers:

You know, and if you're listening and you wonder about Jesus, you want to know more about Jesus. Talk to people like Rodney, me and the other thousands of people around you that discover Jesus and ask them how their life is different. You can only find this from people who personally experience Jesus, and something you did, rodney, is you wrote a book, or maybe even two books, and tell the listeners about this book and how they can get a copy.

Rodney Williams:

Yeah, the first book God told me to write was Club Meth to Christ, and we've printed over 100,000 books. And then the second book was Once an Addict, now Free, just showing you that addiction is a worship disorder we're pursuing trying to be satisfied in the world, but we're spiritual beings and God wants us to be come into relationship with him. And how we come into relationship with relationship with him is through Jesus Christ. And uh, and then and he realized he's everything, when you come in this relationship with Christ and give him your all, uh, you realize everything you had been looking for in the world is you find it in?

Ron Meyers:

him. I remember when we were filming something with you years ago, one of the girls that worked with me I believe it was Ashley heard about that book and she sent that book to someone that was incarcerated up in Oklahoma. That book changed their life. And I'm telling you, friends, this is we all have a purpose, we all have a calling in life and until you get in that calling and purpose, you're going to just wander around the world. His purpose is in these books and I would highly recommend getting a copy of this book. And Rodney does it for free. The Lord provides for him. So, rodney, how do they get a copy of this book?

Rodney Williams:

You can go to our website clubmethtochristcom all lowercase clubmethtoch, christcom all lowercase club meth to christcom and uh, just uh, there's a thing in there about the books. You know that you can message me. I just need an address, your name and address. If you're in prison or have a loved one in prison, just send me all the information, the ais number, whatever needs to be done to get it to the jails. We send them across the country to jails prisons. We want to see inmates.

Ron Meyers:

We want to see addicts free, like I was free Did you ever play, when you were a kid, that little game called dot to dot. You go and you take, go from number one to number two and you eventually get a picture. I bring that up because you know when you're talking I think about when all of us are faithful in the gifts and calling of our life, we help put that picture that God has for all of us coming together. Your dot connects with another one and another one, and soon it's that I see that unity in Christ. They were in one spirit, that we're talking about Jesus, something the world is desperate for now. Does that make sense?

Rodney Williams:

Yes, yes, that's why it's called the body of Christ. You know, there's many different functions, you know, and they're all needed for the body to work the way it's supposed to work.

Ron Meyers:

So now you've got the microphone, I need you to give somebody some encouragement or hope that's listening right now.

Rodney Williams:

Well, in your darkest moment, you know your darkest moment. You know when you have no hope, there's hope in God. You know what I'm saying Through Christ Jesus. You know that you just got to cry out to God and mean it with the heart, not just the profession. The heart is the center of who we are. You know what I'm saying.

Rodney Williams:

When you cry out to God in the heart, in repentance, that you don't want to live this way no more, and ask him to come and to live in your heart and to make you his child, he'll do it and it's called regeneration, or the new birth takes place, and that day forward you begin to follow him. And you know me. God's plan for me was to not only give my life to him, but I was so full of the world I went to a Christian rehabilitation center where God was able to cleanse me, wash me and build a foundation that I've got to build upon the rest of my life. You know, because I'm in a process. You know I'm in the process of God transforming me, changing me, making me, day by day, that new creation in Christ Amen.

Ron Meyers:

You know one thing, listeners, I've known Rodney for many years and this is a follow-up to an interview I did a few years ago but, rodney, you lost your wife, Jennifer a few years ago, who I had interviewed, and you went through that tragic thing in your life and you still went out and wrote the books and went out to prisons. How is life now without, uh, jennifer, your partner, uh and soulmate, uh, and now you're out there and I think you remarried, didn't you?

Rodney Williams:

I did and uh, yeah, we, um, you know, uh, life, life, we live in a fallen world, fallen, uh. You know death comes, you know you, just, you just gotta. That's why christ has got to be preeminent, you know, uh, you know he's got to be superior in your life over your mama, your brother, your sister and all things. You got to put christ in the proper position, uh. So when you, when you lose someone, uh, or you got sickness, you got, whatever hardships, whatever you go through, uh, christ, christ is there to go with you through it. You know what I'm saying. He is your strength, he's your empowerment, he's your comforter, he's everything that you need to get you through that and to keep serving him and living for him.

Ron Meyers:

Rodney, I'm so proud of you and it's a pleasure to call you my friend because I know what you do. You go down in New Orleans, a lot down in the French Quarter, and talk with people about Jesus. You're doing so much good work out there. Before we go today, will you pray for anyone that's listening, that's dealing with any type of addiction, whatever it is? You fill in the blank. Will you pray for them, please, Father?

Rodney Williams:

God, we just come before you thanking you that you love us and you demonstrated that love through the cross of Jesus Christ. Lord, I just pray for the people that are out there, god, that are in the darkness and the bondage of addiction. Lord, that you'll draw them, call them, that they'll just release them, release the addiction and turn and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ and begin this journey to trusting you and living for you. Lord, everything that they need, god, I pray that you'll supply. Give them the comfort they need, the joy that they need, and let them know that you are real, lord. God, make yourself real to them in Jesus' name Amen.

Ron Meyers:

When I return Ron's pep talk.

You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life with your host, ron Myers. Real stories, real struggles and real hope Tell me what I mean by spiritual warfare.

Speaker 4:

Oh, that's when rival religious groups in the Middle East get into a civil war. What is agape? It's a little fish about as big as a dime Predestination. Well, you're going on a trip and you have one destination in mind and change your mind and you want a different destination, let's face it often, Christians and churches speak a different language than everyone else.

Speaker 4:

Original destination. That's predestination Rapture. Oh, that's those dinosaurs in Jurassic Park that were the ancestors of birds. Millennial rain. Sometimes they have no idea what we're talking about. She's the blonde with the southern accent on that Tuesday night sitcom. Well, it's like when the Red Sox needed two points and the guy on second base had to sacrifice.

Speaker 5:

If you want to reach someone for Jesus Christ, learn how they think. Get into their lives instead of waiting for them to come to you or your church, and put their message on a level they can understand and relate to spiritual gifts.

Speaker 4:

Well, it's like on somebody's birthday, you want to give them a cross necklace or a religious book. Omnipotent, so that's an animal that can eat meat or vegetation, like a grizzly bear.

Speaker 6:

God desires to be a part of your life. It absolutely blows my mind that the creator of the heavens and the earth.

Speaker 7:

God desires to be a part of your life. It absolutely blows my mind that the creator of the heavens and the earth, the King of Kings, wants to be close to us. Throughout the Bible, god's desire for relationship with us is evident. Genesis, chapters 2 and 3, we see not just a creator who speaks the world into being, but a father who walks with his children in the cool of the day. God doesn't want to just be part of our Sundays. He wants to walk with us daily, in our homes, our jobs, our decisions and our relationships. He desires to shape us not just for heaven, but for life on earth today. He wants to help us become better people, better parents, better sons and daughters.

Speaker 7:

Ephesians, chapter 6. God wants His love and truth to be the foundation of our homes, in our speech, our patience, our love and our discipline. He is eager to guide us if we will let Him. Even in hardship, god is with us. He is for us, not against us. He desires a relationship with you, one where he is present in your parenting, your work, your decisions and even in your mistakes. If you have not invited Jesus into your heart, do it today and let Him walk with you in your garden, whatever it looks like. He's not far away, he's right there, longing to help you grow, guide your heart and shape your life.

Speaker 6:

Today's refreshing word is from John, chapter 15, verse 7. Jesus said if you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you, from crafts to treats, to sights. So pretty, it's all right here in Christmas City.

Ron Meyers:

You know, life can sometimes feel like a book with lots of torn pages filled with chapters that may define us in ways we do not want to be defined. However, I want you to remember today that those pages do not have to dictate your future. There's an incredible power in recognizing that, even in our most broken moments, grace and love are waiting to lift us up. When you find yourself in the storm, feeling overwhelmed, questioning if anyone cares, hold tight to your faith. Trust that there is a greater story being woven through your life, even if you can't see it right now. Each challenge you face is part of the journey, and the pain often leads to healing. And it often leads to purpose and, most of all, it will lead to purpose.

Ron Meyers:

God is present in every detail of your life. Even when it doesn't make sense, he holds you in the palm of his hands and his love never fails. In your weakest moments, my friend, lean into that trust. Know that you are never alone. He walks with you through every high and low, guiding you to brighter days. So, no matter what you're facing addiction, loss or sorrow there's hope and healing available. Your story is still being written and it has the potential to inspire not only you but also others, to inspire not only you but also others. So, to conclude, embrace that journey, hold on to hope and believe that victory is ahead. Your story matters and you are stronger than you think. Keep moving forward. There's a beautiful ending waiting to unfold, because God is in your story and it's a best seller.

How do you get the hell out of your life? Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord. He hears you, right where you are. How?

Rodney Williams:

do you get the hell out of your life? Well, you replace it with Jesus. We got to be born again, born of the Spirit, and that's by trusting Jesus Christ, turning from our sins and trusting Jesus.

Speaker 7:

It's a one-step program and you find out about this man by the name of Jesus, who went to the cross and gave his life so that we will have a life more abundantly. And if you can receive that love, he will love that. Hell out of you.

Speaker 4:

How do you get the hell out of your life? You trust in him and you let him love the hell right out of you.

Ron Meyers:

How do you get the hell out of your life?

Speaker 6:

Oh, right out of you. How do you get the hell out of?

Speaker 7:

your life, oh gosh, jesus, jesus, jesus, jesus and abide in him. Yes, turn to Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through him.

Ron Meyers:

As we close this chapter today, this week, I want you to meditate on this. God is in my story, because God is writing my story. And then you wrap it up with a simple prayer Jesus inspire, encourage and empower me each day to become all that I can be in your name. Amen, and make a habit to have coffee with Jesus every day. Have a heart healing conversation, Be open, be honest and tell him what's on your mind. Don't hold back. I can testify that everything is going to be all right. He is working all things for your good, my friend. He is writing a story to tell the world. I will be back next week with another inspiring episode of Get the Hell Out of your Life, available on your favorite podcast platform. Until next time, this is Ron Myers, reminding you that I love you, Jesus loves you, and when you commit your life to Jesus, you not only get the hell out of your life, but life gets good. Now go tell someone what Jesus is doing for you. Give the hell out. Give the hell out of your life.
