Get The Hell Out of Your Life

Christmas Hope For Misfit Hearts: Why Jesus Came And Why it Matters Today

Ron Meyers Season 6 Episode 48

Send us a text

What if the parts of you that feel disqualified are exactly where Christmas begins? We sit with real questions from real people—about doubt, shame, loneliness, and whether God is angry—and respond with a clear, hopeful claim: grace moves first. Not the kind of grace that asks you to pretend, but the kind that meets you in the mess and won’t let go.

We unpack why the birth of Jesus is more than a nostalgic scene. If God stepped into our world, then love came looking for the skeptic, the misfit, and the tired soul who can’t fix themselves. We talk about self-worth through a different lens, where identity is anchored in what Jesus finished, not how well we perform. That flips the script on fear. Perfect love casts out fear because punishment isn’t hanging over believers; the cross settled it. From there, change stops being a threat and becomes a response—desires shift, habits soften, and peace begins to outrun anxiety.

We also push back on comparisons. No one gets extra portions of the Holy Spirit for looking polished. You’re complete in Christ, and your journey is personal, not a scoreboard. Honest conversations with God—over coffee, on a commute, or in quiet—are not rituals to impress but practices that tune your heart to his presence. And if the holidays hurt this year, we sit with that too. Jesus is near to the brokenhearted, and small steps toward community, prayer, and honesty can open space for comfort to do its slow, steady work.

If you’re ready for hope that doesn’t flinch and peace that doesn’t depend on perfect circumstances, press play. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with one takeaway that gave you courage.

Announcer:

It's time now to get the hell out of your life. A weekly broadcast with real people, sharing real struggles, and offering real hope. Today's show will encourage, inspire, and empower you to face life's challenges with a bold confidence and renewed hope now.

Ron Meyers:

Hello, my friends. It is so good to be with you today. Happy holidays. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves. And those of you that perhaps are listening that have not had a joyous Christmas, you don't go to church, you don't really believe in Jesus, you've kind of heard a story about him, but you really don't understand the true gift, the present of Jesus to the world. So what I did today for a show, I created it just for you. I assembled a lot of comments and questions that I have received over the last few years. I put them into my AI program and let it come out with some questions from individuals, real hurts, real questions, a lot of curiosity about Jesus, and I'll answer them according to Scripture. I think you'll find them very encouraging. Why I think this is important is because for many years, friends, I lived on the island of misfit toys. That's right. I was sent to the island of misfit toys because I was weird. I was different. I had dreams. I knew God had a plan for me, but nobody understood me. So I had to develop a relationship with Jesus without the benefits of church or wise counsel because they always were telling me something that I had to do or clean up my act. Well, I couldn't clean up my act. I was a misfit toy. I needed somebody to help me leave the island of misfit toys. And one day I found Jesus. And not only did I find out that I wasn't a misfit toy, I found out that Jesus doesn't create misfit toys. Each one of us is uniquely designed with specific talents, skills, and abilities. So today, my show, well, I'm gonna have some fun. So why not grab a cup of coffee, maybe some eggnog, sit around the fire, or if you're in your vehicle listening, don't get distracted. Let's have some fun and hear about who this baby Jesus is. Why did he come to the world? And what's a Christmas miracle that you need? Let's start with my first AI questionnaire. His name is AI Alex.

Alex:

I don't know what to believe about Christmas. You are asking me to think that this miracle baby was born for me, really?

Ron Meyers:

Yes, really, Alex. The story of Christmas, it is truly miraculous and deeply meaningful. Christmas is about God stepping into human history in a way that had never happened before. Jesus, though he came as a fragile baby, was God Himself in the flesh, a miracle indeed. This wasn't just about the birth of a baby in a manger. It's about God's extraordinary love for you and all of humanity. Jesus came to reveal God's heart, to show you what love looks like, and most importantly, to rescue us by providing a way for us to be united with God forever. Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus offers you forgiveness and a whole new life. It's not just a story of a baby, but the beginning of God's incredible plan to save us through his death and resurrection. This means that you are deeply loved and he came specifically to bring grace, forgiveness, and a forever relationship with God. Christmas is a beautiful reminder of how far God went to be with us and to make us his own. It's more than tradition, it's more than Christmas carols. It showcases the heart of God's love for you personally. If that's not the best kind of miracle, I don't know what is.

Speaker 7:

What's the big deal about his love when I don't even love myself?

Ron Meyers:

Alex, I get it. I grew up that way. I did not have a lot of love for myself, and it was never reinforced by my parents. But here's what we need to understand. And it can be tough to wrap our minds around God's love when we struggle with loving ourselves. But here is the most beautiful truth that you'll ever hear, Alex. God's love isn't based on your feelings or perceptions, it's based on who he is and what he's done for you through his son Jesus. God's love for you, Alex, is constant, unwavering, and unconditional. He doesn't love you because of what you've done, but because of who you are to him. You are his beloved creation. In Ephesians chapter 3, verses 8 and 19, Paul prays that we may grasp the enormity of God's love, the width, the length, height, and depth of it. It surpasses all knowledge. It's beyond comprehension. But when you believe in Jesus, you are given a new identity as a beloved and cherished child of God. He loves you so much that he sent Jesus to remove every barrier, every sin, and every ounce of shame or guilt. Romans chapter 8, verses 38 and 39 assures us that nothing, I mean nothing, can separate us from his love. So, Alex, learning to see yourself through his eyes as pure and loved and new is a journey. But know this: his love is the foundation, and from it you can begin to learn what it means to also love yourself as you are designed, created in his image. Alex, you're already enough and valued beyond measure. And his opinion of you is really the only thing that counts.

Alex:

I drink, I cuss, I chase women, and I like to party. So I am sure God wants to whap the crap out of me.

Ron Meyers:

Well, Alex, it might feel like God's ready to whap the crap out of you, but let me tell you the truth. The truth is quite the opposite. God isn't about punishment for believers. His focus is entirely on love and patience. Jesus already took any punishment we might deserve completely and fully on the cross. You can read about this in Romans chapter 8, 1 through 4. This means that God's not in the business of smacking you or me into submission. God's kindness is what leads us to turn around and embrace him, not out of fear of punishment. He desires what is truly best for you. And his way of showing this is not through force, but through grace. When you recognize, Alex, how profoundly loved you are by him right here, right now, exactly as you are, it opens up so much freedom to truly live in the purpose God created you to live in. This understanding of grace doesn't mean there's no call to change. Instead, his spirit begins working inside of you, Alex, shaping your desires and leading you to true fulfillment. Beyond the parties and the temporary highs, and in Titus chapter 2, verse 11 and 12, we see that God's grace teaches us to live self-controlled, upright lives, but it's always with his nurturing guidance, never a threat. Now let's take a question from A.I. Betty.

betty:

I often pray for change and attend church at Christmas, but nothing seems to happen. Jesus feels distant and seems unaware of me.

Ron Meyers:

Oh, Betty, I can give you an amen to that. I've been there and done that. But let me tell you what I have discovered: that those feelings of distance or stagnations can be tough, especially when you're hoping for change. But here is the beautiful thing: Jesus is never distant from you. If you've put your trust in him, he's with you every moment because he lives in you. The feeling of distance often comes from our expectations or emotions rather than reality. The truth is, Betty, your union with Christ is unbreakable. Hebrews chapter 13, verse 5 confirms this. God isn't looking at your church attendance or your attempts to change as a measurement. He's deeply invested in a relationship with you based on grace, not your works or your actions. When it feels like nothing is happening, it might be a time for letting go of striving and resting in what Jesus has already done for you. Change is often internal and a process. Colossians chapter 2, verse 6 and 7 reminds us to walk in him, rooted and established in faith, already complete in him. This doesn't mean sitting back and waiting for magic. It's about trusting in his work, in his timing. God has a plan. Growth is about renewing your mind through truth, resting in his love and recognizing that you're enough just as you are. This is a process you're going through, Betty. And sometimes we're so focused on changing ourselves that we miss the adventure of discovering who we are in Christ. We are perfectly loved and accepted. Here's a comment from AI Bob.

Bob:

But God seems to bless the holy rollers and Bible-touting Christians who have their act together. I know because many of them remind me to wake up and smell the Holy Spirit.

Ron Meyers:

You got that right, Bob. Sometimes people come across as having it all together or as if they're experiencing more blessings because they appear more holy. But here's the steadfast truth: God doesn't play favorites based on our outward actions or apparent togetherness. His love and blessings aren't handed out based on performance or showiness. Remember the story of the prodigal son? It wasn't the seemingly together son that celebrated, but the one who returned to unconditional love. Luke chapter 15, verses 11 through 32. God sees your heart and he knows your journey. His spirit isn't directed by external measures, but by the genuine truth of his bond with you. The Holy Spirit is in every believer, fully, not parceled out, more to some and less to others. You're complete in Christ, Bob, lacking nothing. See Colossians chapter 2, verse 10. While others might seem to have it all together, remember that your walk with God is unique and deeply personal. Don't measure your walk by the walk of others. Embrace the truth. Don't get rattled by comparisons, and embrace the fact that you've got everything you need for a full and godly life. 2 Peter chapter 1, verse 3 clarifies this.

Bob:

I hear a guy on the radio telling me to have daily conversations and coffee with Jesus and to be honest and open, sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have been doing that, and I have found peace and greater understanding about my destiny. Is that because of Jesus or just good coffee?

Ron Meyers:

All right, Bob, it sounds like you're starting to wake up and smell the Holy Spirit. While a great cup of coffee can undoubtedly lift the mood, the profound peace and understanding you're experiencing comes from your relationship with Jesus and the work of the Spirit in you. You see, when you open up and communicate honestly with God, you're engaging what's already a close and personal relationship. Jesus is always with you because he lives in you and he is attentive and he delights in your conversations. He's the source of every good thing you're experiencing. Philippians chapter 4, verse 7. That peace that surpasses all human understanding comes from him. 2 Corinthians chapter 13 verse 5 mentions testing to see if Christ is indeed in you. And what you are experiencing is his presence, affirming his love and truth in your heart. These are not just random and good feelings. They're the fruit of God's Spirit connecting deeply with your spirit. Continue in these conversations. It will allow you to see the life more from God's perspective, which naturally brings clarity about your journey and destiny. It's just not soothing words, it's the assurance of an unshakable bond with Jesus who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. So, Bob, keep those conversations going.

Bob:

So are you telling me that little old me with all my problems, insecurities, and wild lifestyle, that baby Jesus was born for me?

Ron Meyers:

Yes, Bob, and now you're getting the picture. You've got it. That little baby Jesus came into the world for you, just as you are, with everything that makes you uniquely you. It's because he loves you deeply right here and now. And now he wants you to get wild and party about the Son of Man, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. And the birth of Jesus reflects the profound love God has for each one of us. He chose to enter our messy world to bring us unshakable hope in life. No matter what struggles, insecurities, or lifestyle you wrestle with, Jesus came to provide grace and truth. He wanted to bridge the gap that sin created, offering a relationship that's based on not what we do, but on what he's done for us. In Luke chapter 19, verse 10, Jesus puts it beautifully. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. That's all of us, Bob, needing rescue from our self-made prisons and worldly turmoil. He knew you beforehand and stepped into history to make sure you, Bob, were included in his loving plan. It's this incredible love, personal, intimate, and powerful relationship that transforms how we see ourselves and our lives. He isn't asking you to clean up first, he invites you to come as you are, trusting his finished work to take care of the rest. It's a delight to share with the world the birth of Jesus and how he has a plan for each and every one of us.

Bob:

I am goofy looking, don't have nice clothes, and am very shy. I might not go to church. Will that kick me out of club Christianity?

Ron Meyers:

Well, Bob, you're definitely coming up with a lot of excuses, but you will never get kicked out of club Christianity for any of the reasons you just mentioned. Remember, Christianity isn't a club you get kicked out of based on your appearance, clothes, or shyness. It's a relationship with Jesus. It's about what he has done for you, not about your fashion or your social status. Bob, God chose you, loved you, and made you his child through the work of Jesus. Ephesians chapter 1, verses 4 and 5. Your identity in Christ is rock solid and not dependent on how you look, what you wear, or even whether you attend church regularly. Church can be a great place for community and encouragement, but it's not a requirement for God's love. It's more about connecting with others who can support, uplift, and walk with you in this journey we call life. Jesus loves you completely and loves creativity in his creation. Goofy or shy, it's all part of his fantastic design. God's love and acceptance are permanent and come from the heart. So take hard in knowing that you are deeply known, loved, and embraced by him just as you are. Now here's a question from A.I. Lulu.

LuLu:

I have lost my husband, my kids live far away, and I am alone this Christmas and I hate it. I am lonely and stay in my bed all day. I could use a Christmas miracle.

Ron Meyers:

Lulu, I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss and the loneliness you're feeling, especially during the holidays. It's so hard to face this time of year when distance and loss seem magnified. But here's a comforting truth for you today. You're never truly alone. Jesus is with you, holding you even in the midst of sorrow. His presence is constant and he cares deeply about what you're going through. He promises to be close to the brokenhearted. And he understands every tear and every sigh. While it may not feel like it, reaching out to him can bring that sense of miracle you're longing for. He's your comfort, and you can talk to him about everything on your heart, big or small. In 1 Peter chapter 5, verse 7, we are reminded to cast all our anxieties on him because he cares for us deeply. Let that be a tender lifeline to your heart. God often works through community, even in small ways. Perhaps you can reach out to a local group, a church, or even a community center. And Lulu, if it brings peace, spend time reflecting on meaningful memories and know that God's Spirit fills that space with love and hope. Don't hesitate to share this need for a miracle with others, whether it's a friend, a pastor, or a counselor. You are loved more than you know, and even from afar, others care about you. When I return, my Christmas gift to you.

You're listening to Get the Hell Out of Your Life with your host, Ron Myers. Real stories, real struggles, and real hope.

Ron Meyers:

Can fear and peace coexist within you at the same time? Well, let's explore that today on Destined for Success. Fear and peace are diametrically opposed, and understanding their relationship is key to living in the freedom that Christ offers. In the new covenant, God calls us to experience his peace, which surpasses all understanding. This peace is rooted in the truth that we are fully forgiven, completely loved, and eternally secure in Christ. Fear often arises from forgetting or misunderstanding these truths. First John 4 18 reminds us that perfect love casts out fear. Because fear involves punishment. And as believers, we know that Jesus has taken all punishment for our sins. So we don't need to fear God's anger or judgment. While life circumstances can make us feel anxious, we are encouraged to bring our worries to God in prayer, trusting Him to provide peace and comfort. The Holy Spirit within us reassures us of our secure position in Christ, helping us rest in his love and grace. So, friend, if you're feeling a mixture of fear and peace, it might be a sign to refocus on the truth of God's love and the finished work of Jesus. Remember, his peace is always available to you. And his spirit is there to guide you through any anxiety you might face.

If getting old has you depressed. Growing up sometimes scares the daylights out of you. If you want to know what the future holds, get in touch with the one who holds the future. Stop wasting time and get a hold of God. It's not about earning points by being good. It ain't about some born church. Not about working your way to heaven. Finding God is not about following some group who claims to be the only way to God. It's not about being religious. It's not about religion. It's all about God's only Son. It's all about Jesus. It's all about Jesus. It's about Jesus Christ. It's all about you. It's all about you, Jesus. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me. Well, someday when I stand before God and he asks me, Why should I let you into heaven? All that's gonna matter is if I knew Jesus or not, and that's what it's all about. How do you get the hell out of your life? Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord. He hears you right where you are. How to get the hell out of your life? Well, you replace it with Jesus. We gotta be born again, born of the Spirit, and that's by trusting Jesus Christ, turning from our sins and trusting Jesus. How do you get the hell out of your life? Oh gosh.

Ron Meyers:

Jesus. Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Turn to Jesus. The greatest day in my life, friends, was the day I got the hell out of my life. It was. I feel good. I look good. I think I do anyway. Not because of anything I do, because everything he does through me. I keep the stress away. I have some peace. I have some confidence in the things that he's doing in my life. And the most important thing that God has called me to do is to tell you you are fully accepted by Jesus. That's right. If you are a believer, you have it made. You've got it. You have eternity with Jesus. You can't lose it. You can't screw it up. We all stumble, but when we are faithless, he is faithful. Let me close out today's show with prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of Jesus this Christmas season. And for those that are struggling and they don't know what to believe, they feel like a misfit toy. They feel out of place in this world. Well, that's because they haven't met Jesus yet. Lord, let them feel your love. Hold them in the palm of your hands and reassure them that perfect love casts out all fear. And Jesus, you are that perfect fear. Touch us, inspire us, encourage us to become the person you created us to be. 2026, we declare is going to be our best year because we are going to walk by faith, not by sight, and we are going to strive each and every day to just rest in the finished works of Jesus and become a person of destiny. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. I'll be back next week with another inspirational episode of Get the Hell Out of Your Life available on your favorite podcast platform. In the meantime, remember this that I love you, Jesus loves you, and when you give Jesus your heart, you not only get the hell out of your life, but life gets good.
